Biovet presented its range of pronutrients in the UK for the improvement of the digestive system in turkeys

The thirteenth edition of Turkey Times took place in Chester, UK, between March 6th and 8th. According to the organizers, this annual meeting on science and common pathologies in the production of turkeys was aimed at the dissemination of latest production trends and new treatments for better animal health.

Although the main focus of the event was about the European turkey industry, they were attendees both from private and research sectors from Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia.

On behalf of Biovet S.A. laboratories, Dr. Júlia Pié gave a lecture in line with the debate on animal physiology optimization and intestinal well-functioning with natural additives. By using them, it is intended to ameliorate nutrient-assimilation and enable general strengthening of the immune system, so the proliferation of some pathologies can be mitigated.

Improvement of the intestinal mucosa for greater nutrient-absorption

Biovet’s proposal for the optimization of the digestive system functions is based, mainly, on the combination of two kinds of pronutrients: intestinal conditioners and intestinal optimizers.

The former favor the regeneration of enterocytes, thus facilitating the absorption of nutrients and a better general functioning of the intestine. The latter, on the other hand, are designed to strengthen intestine’s local immune system, so that parasites’ reproductive cycle can be broken and eliminated them from the digestive system, avoiding infestations such as coccidiosis.

While both types of pronutrients are marketed separately as Alquernat Nebsui and Alquernat Zycox, Biovet has developed Alquernat Coneb, a product that combines both intestinal conditioners and optimizers. This natural additive is especially indicated to mitigate the appearance of pathologies and reduce the use of antimicrobials in turkey production.

Other debate topics

In addition to new methods for immunological improvement against the onset of coccidiosis, those aimed at avoiding the proliferation of pathogenic microorganisms in the intestine, such as salmonella, were also protagonists. Amongst Biovet’s product range, there is an intestinal biocide marketed under the name Alquemold Natural, which has been especially designed to avoid the growth of enterobacteria.
Beyond common pathologies in the breeding of turkeys and the use of additives for better animal health and nutrition in a context of prohibition of the prophylactic use of antimicrobials, sessions also revolved around the use of new technologies for transport poultry farms’ management, and the latest relevant discoveries in the field of genomics and biotechnology.
