Efficacy of Alquernat Zycox intestinal optimizer pronutrients to control coccidiosis in broilers

INTRODUCTION
In 2004 in Panama, the ability of Alquernat Zycox, intestinal optimizer pronutrients to control the presentation of coccidiosis in industrial poultry was compared with the effect of chemical coccidiostats. Different parameters were evaluated in order to compare the effects of the two treatments on them.

MATERIAL AND METHODS
The study was conducted in broilers, divided in two batches, one of them treated with coccidiostats and the other one with intestinal optimizer pronutrients; both for 45 days, which is the entire production cycle:
•    Batch 1: Intestinal optimizer pronutrients.
•    Batch 2: Chemical coccidiostats (Salinomycin).

EVALUATED PARAMETERS
The following productive parameters were evaluated:
•    % Mortality
•    Average weight
•    Daily weight gain
•    Feed conversion rate (FCR)
•    Efficiency index (EI):

Results at day 45

CONCLUSIONS AT THE END OF THE TRIAL

There is a small difference (only 0.01 points) between the following parameters:

  • Average weight
  • Feed conversion rate

However, there is a higher difference regarding the following ones:

  • % mortality (3% lower in the pronutrients batch)
  • Efficiency index (10.02 points better in the pronutrients batch)

Better overall results in the treatment with intestinal optimizer pronutrients.

This product based on intestinal optimizer pronutrients, manufactured by Biovet S.A., is commercially available under the name Alquernat Zycox.
