In vitro evaluation of the medium and long-term efficacy of the cimenol ring as a feed preservative
The aim of this study was to demonstrate the efficacy of a compound based on cimenol ring as a fungicide for balanced feed stored over a long period of time (up to 6 months).
Methodology
Commercial feed was artificially contaminated with Aspergillus flavus (8×105 CFU/g) and maintained at 27ᵒC. A CFU/g count was performed periodically for 6 months. Dosage of the preservative based on cimenol ring was of 400 ppm.
Results
Conclusions
Results show that fungicidal effect of cimenol ring is 100% effective after the third week and its effectiveness is maintained for 6 months. Therefore, this test shows that the cimenol ring preservative maintains its efficacy in time up to 180 days.
This product based on cimenol ring is commercially available under the name Alquermold Natural.
