The event was held in Cartagena de Indias from March 30 to April 1, 2022.

On March 31 and April 1, two field trials conducted by Biovet in Colombia and Peru were presented as lectures and posters, as part of the program of the 7th International Conference on Poultry Intestinal Health held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.

The study entitled “Effect of pronutrients on intestinal integrity and performance in broilers that receive a diet with raw soybean” was presented on April 1 as a conference. The presentation was given by veterinarian Alejandra Ruiz and the study was carried out by Biovet S.A. and INPSAS.

In this presentation, Dr. Ruiz assessed the origin of intestinal conditioner pronutrients and their mechanisms of action on genes and enterocytes. Afterward, she presented the results of a study carried out in broilers exposed to the antinutritional factors of soybean as feed.

In this work, broilers were treated with antibiotic growth promoters compared to intestinal conditioner pronutrients.

The results indicated that animals treated with pronutrients had better productive efficiency related to increased daily weight gain, better feed conversion ratio, and better economic performance. In addition, pronutrients improved intestinal cell morphology and maintained inflammation indicators at normal levels.

In this way, the study proved that intestinal conditioner pronutrients, marketed by Biovet S.A. under the name Alquernat Nebsui, are an effective solution to improve productive performance in broilers even when exposed to challenges at the intestinal level.

Results of cimenol ring for preventing egg contamination

Dr. Alejandra Ruiz also presented a poster at this event on March 31 entitled “Evaluation “Efficacy of the botanic molecule Cimenol Ring to reduce egg contamination in comparison to organic acids and formaldehyde“. The study was carried out by professionals from the Universidad Científica del Sur, Perú, and the Biovet S.A. team.

In this poster, the authors explained the problem of egg contamination in poultry farming. In addition, the mechanism of action of the cimenol ring, which has microbiocidal activity against pathogens in the feed and gastrointestinal tract and prevents microbial contamination of eggs was discussed.

In the study, laying hens were treated with cimenol ring compared to organic acid and formaldehyde treatments which have the disadvantages of being corrosive, hazardous, and carcinogenic.

The results of the study showed that the percentage of dirty eggs in hens treated with cimenol ring was lower, which was evidenced by lower counts of Campylobacter and C. perfringens in eggs. In addition, a lower CFU count of E. coli evaluated in hen feces was seen.

Finally, the authors concluded from the data obtained that there was a significant improvement with the use of cimenol ring to prevent dirty eggs and improve the productive performance of laying hens.
