Biovet will attend the next edition of the European Symposium on Poultry Nutrition in Poland

Biovet S.A. Laboratories will attend to the 22nd edition of the European Symposium on Poultry Nutrition (ESPN), which will take place between June 10th and 13th 2019 at the AMBEREXPO convention center in the Polish city of Gdansk. Biovet will present a poster entitled “Use of a natural antimicrobial to treat and prevent Clostridium perfringens induced necrotic enteritis in broilers”.

The event will revolve around recent studies on health and nutrition in poultry production, focusing mainly on broilers and layers, although specific sessions related to the breeding of turkeys and ducks have also been scheduled.

The core topics expected to be discussed at the gathering will be the latest advances in protein sources for animal feed, specific nutrition for layers, new methods for the maintenance of gut health and new methods for greater sustainability in the poultry production.

Treatment and prevention of necrotic enteritis with a natural microbicide

Biovet’s contribution to the ESPN involves the presentation of its natural preservative with microbicidal and fungicidal activity, commercialized as Alquermold Natural. This additive can be administered either in feed and drinking water, working both as preventive and as a treatment in the event of an outbreak. Its active ingredients are cimenol ring and citric acid, which synergistically control the pathogenic intestinal flora of the animal, avoiding infections caused by bacteria that produce pernicious toxins for the intestinal mucosa and respecting the activity of beneficial bacteria at the same time.

The data present in the poster has been obtained directly from an in vivo test carried out by the Universidad Científica del Sur (UCSUR) of Peru, showing the natural microbicide efficacy when applied both as a prevention method and as a treatment on artificially Clostridium perfringens infected broilers. Clostridium is one of the causative agents of avian necrotic enteritis.
