These disorders not only affect animal welfare, but also have a <strong>direct impact on feed conversion, growth, flock uniformity and overall farm profitability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the various risk factors, one of particular importance is the <strong>presence of high levels of antinutritional factors in the diet<\/strong>. These can accelerate intestinal transit, reduce digestibility, and promote the growth of pathogenic flora such as <em>E. coli<\/em>, to the detriment of beneficial bacteria such as <em>Lactobacillus<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"556\" height=\"260\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/desafios-intestinales.jpg\" alt=\"Intestinal challenges in broilers\" class=\"wp-image-62455\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The impact of intestinal challenges<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The most common effects observed in farms affected by these challenges include:<br>\u2022 <strong>Reduced intestinal retention time<\/strong>, which decreases the capacity for nutrient absorption and assimilation.<br>\u2022 <strong>Intestinal microbiota imbalance<\/strong>, favouring the excessive proliferation of undesirable microorganisms.<br>\u2022 <strong>Increased litter moisture<\/strong>, leading to conditions such as footpad dermatitis or higher ammonia load in the environment.<br>\u2022 <strong>Poorer productive performance<\/strong>, seen in lower final weight, higher feed conversion ratio, and increased mortality.<br>\u2022 <strong>Decreased carcass quality and yield<\/strong>, affecting marketability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Nutritional approach to the challenge<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The use of functional additives with physiological action has gained relevance as a <strong>natural alternative to antibiotic growth promoters or synthetic antimicrobials<\/strong>. Within this context, a study was conducted to evaluate the impact of a natural additive formulated with <strong>activated diatoms<\/strong>, pronutrients, and antimicrobial active compounds, designed to <strong>modulate digestive transit, improve digestive physiology, and support a balanced intestinal microbiota<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Experimental study: Evaluation of <a href=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/en\/producto\/alquerfeed-diatom-an-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alquerfeed\u00ae Diatom AN<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Trial design<\/u><\/strong><br>Biovet S.A. conducted an in vivo study with <strong>400 broiler chickens (Cobb 500) <\/strong>over a 42-day period, with four experimental treatments and five replicates per group.
