Its impact on intestinal integrity, feed conversion, and mortality is well known, which has led to the prolonged use of coccidiostats as a preventive measure. However, regulatory pressure, the emergence of resistance, and the need to reduce residues have sparked debate over sustainable alternative strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current challenge lies in maintaining intestinal integrity and productive efficiency without relying exclusively on pharmacological programmes. A complementary and\/or alternative approach is the use of natural compounds that stimulate local intestinal immunity, promote disruption of the coccidia life cycle, and support faster epithelial recovery following <em>Eimeria<\/em> challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"556\" height=\"260\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/afrontar-coccidiosis_prev.jpg\" alt=\"Addressing coccidiosis without on chemical anticoccidials\" class=\"wp-image-62426\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of these compounds, such as immunostimulant pronutrients, work by enhancing the expression of key interleukins involved in the elimination of intracellular pathogens (IL-1, IL-12, IL-18), boosting the activity of macrophages, NK cells and T lymphocytes, and prolonging the specific immune response against coccidia. Trials have shown reduced severity of caecal lesions, lower oocyst counts, and improvements in feed conversion, final weight, and mortality rates.
