For this, the antioxidant effect of the cimenol ring, active principle from plant extracts, has been evaluated.<\/p>\n<h5>Mechanism of action<\/h5>\n<p><strong>Cimenol ring<\/strong> has an antioxidant effect: it prevents fat oxidation and maintains feed nutritional and organoleptic properties. Its mechanism of action consists in:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Cimenol ring is more reactive than nutrients in peroxidation process,<\/strong> so that it is oxidized in their place in presence of free radicals.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-9394 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/capture-cimenol-ring-eng-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"558\" height=\"234\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Neutralizes electrons <\/strong>released during peroxidation and prevents degradation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-9391 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Captura-anillo-cimenol-2-cast.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"621\" height=\"249\" \/><br \/>\n<em><strong>A-<\/strong> Oxidized feed, free and reactive radicals.\u00a0<strong>A<\/strong> Feed without free electrons, it is not reactive: <strong>oxidation chain is disrupted<\/strong>. <strong>e-<\/strong> Electron<\/em><\/p>\n<h5>Comparative with Vitamin E<\/h5>\n<p>Vitamin E is a fat-soluble nutrient present in feed that acts as a natural antioxidant, so that it is used as a pattern to compare the antioxidant activity of other molecules.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aim of the trial<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To compare the antioxidant capacity of the cimenol ring with vitamin E (natural antioxidant).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Methodology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Spectrophotometry is conducted using DPPH as an indicator for oxidation. In a solution, DPPH is purple, but, when it interacts with an antioxidant, the unpaired electron is neutralized and the resulting molecules is colorless. Therefore, <strong>the lowest the absorbance measured in the spectrophotometer, the higher is the capacity to neutralize free radicals of the evaluated substance<\/strong> (higher antioxidant capacity).<\/p>\n<p>Prepare the solutions to be tested:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>8 ml with the following concentrations of vitamin E: 0.05 g\/ml, 0.005 g\/ml, 5\u00d710-4 g\/ml, 5\u00d710-5 g\/ml, 5\u00d710-6 g\/ml.<\/li>\n<li>8 ml with the following concentrations of cimenol: 0.05 g\/ml, 0.005 g\/ml, 5\u00d710-4 g\/ml, 5\u00d710-5 g\/ml, 5\u00d710-6 g\/ml.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Design the calibration curve with DPPH (absorbance at 517 nm\/DPPH concentration in mM)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Results<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-9393 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/table-results-cimenol-ring-eng-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1012\" height=\"390\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Results obtained at 0.05 g\/ml and 0.005 g\/ml can\u2019t be compared because the 100% of DPPH is neutralized, which means there is too much antioxidant compound (cimenol) in the sample.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Conclusions<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>Cimenol ring is more effective than vitamin E as an antioxidant<\/strong>: at a concentration of 5\u00d710<sup>-4<\/sup> g\/ml (0.5 mg\/l) is 41.52 times more effective than vitamin E at the same concentration.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, this compound can be used as an antioxidant in raw materials and balanced feed for feed at much lower doses than vitamin E.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Products with cimenol ring<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Alquernat Oxyfree and Alquermold Natural, two products marketed by Biovet, S.A., contain cimenol ring at different concentrations.
