{"id":56382,"date":"2018-11-27T08:44:10","date_gmt":"2018-11-27T07:44:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/rural-poultry-at-the-iii-international-poultry-course\/"},"modified":"2024-04-22T12:11:11","modified_gmt":"2024-04-22T10:11:11","slug":"rural-poultry-at-the-iii-international-poultry-course","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/en\/2018\/11\/27\/rural-poultry-at-the-iii-international-poultry-course\/","title":{"rendered":"Rural Poultry at the III International Poultry Course"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The III International Poultry Course was held on October 20th and 21st in Lima (Peru) with a large attendance of students of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, veterinarians and professionals of the poultry industry.<\/strong>\u00a0During the second session of the course, moderated by the rector of the Scientific University of the South (<em>Cient\u00edfica<\/em>), Dr. Manuel Rosemberg,\u00a0<strong>\u201crural poultry and ecology\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0was addressed.<\/p>\n<p>Renowned personalities such as:\u00a0<strong>Fernando Castro,<\/strong>\u00a0(FAO- United Nations Organization for Food and Agriculture);\u00a0<strong>Inspector Veterinary Eduardo J. Torres<\/strong>, specialist in Spanish native breeds;\u00a0<strong>Ricardo Pedraglio<\/strong>\u00a0(biologist, Peruvian Association of Poultry Exposition);\u00a0<strong>Miguel Alejo Espinoza<\/strong>(ISAMISA) and\u00a0<strong>Montserrat \u00c1lamos<\/strong>\u00a0(Generalitat de Catalunya) participated in this session.<\/p>\n<p>The afternoon session began with a presentation made by the Inspector Eduardo J. Torres, entitled:\u00a0<strong>\u201cImprovement actions in farms of native poultry breeds\u201d<\/strong>. In the same he explained that \u201cthe improvement of the rural exploitations is a political, social, sanitary and economic duty\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In his opinion, \u201cthe current exploitations of local breeds have been kept in line with the characteristics of the birds, the possibilities of management and the idiosyncrasy of the population, so that the farms must be sufficiently profitable based on the increase of the productivity, the increase of the efficiency and the improvement of the commercialization, to the minimum cost\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-9084 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/El-III-Curso-Internacional-de-Avicultura-aborda-la-avicultura-rural-768x512-1-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For his part, Fernando Castro (FAO) gave a presentation entitled\u00a0<strong>\u201cInternational experiences of criole bird breeding and importance of food security\u201d.<\/strong>\u00a0Castro highlighted \u201cthe advantages of meat and eggs compared to other animal proteins, since poultry meat reaches an average family without the need to refrigerate, while pigs and cattle are saved for festive occasions. In addition, eggs can be purchased in small quantities and an egg is a meal by itself\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, Montserrat \u00c1lamos of the Generalitat de Catalunya, described the\u00a0<strong>\u201cManagement of poultry farms: industrial, rural and ecological\u201d,<\/strong>\u00a0that is, the security measures that farms in Catalonia must comply.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding\u00a0<strong>biosecurity<\/strong>\u00a0and animal health, \u00c1lamos stressed that \u201call farms must comply: location conditions; exterior insulation: perimeter fencing; disinfection of vehicles in the access to the farm; cleaning and disinfection systems at the entrance of each nave; systems to control and reduce the entry of birds or other animals possible vectors of diseases to the naves\u201d and assured that the \u201cnew facilities have to be designed not to allow the entrance of lorries and the removal of droppings, that must be done from outside\u201d. In addition, farms must have a \u201csanitary-hygienic program\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-9083 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/El-III-Curso-Internacional-de-Avicultura-aborda-la-avicultura-rural3-768x512-1-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Other presentations that were given during this session dedicated to \u201crural poultry\u201d are:\u00a0<strong>\u201cCreole hens breeding in Peru for rural and ecological production\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0(Ricardo Pedraglio) and\u00a0<strong>\u201cProduction of Creole chickens for rural and ecological consumption\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0(Miguel Alejo Espinoza).
