{"id":55062,"date":"2018-07-20T10:28:12","date_gmt":"2018-07-20T08:28:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/effect-of-alquermold-natural-cimenol-ring-on-clostridium-perfringens-in-vitro\/"},"modified":"2024-04-22T12:02:55","modified_gmt":"2024-04-22T10:02:55","slug":"effect-of-alquermold-natural-cimenol-ring-on-clostridium-perfringens-in-vitro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/en\/2018\/07\/20\/effect-of-alquermold-natural-cimenol-ring-on-clostridium-perfringens-in-vitro\/","title":{"rendered":"Effect of preservative Alquermold Natural on Clostridium perfringens, in vitro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/9999999999999.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>INTRODUCTION<\/strong><br \/>\nThe aim of the trial, carried out\u00a0\u00a0at the Minnesota University (USA) in 2018 was to determine if a\u00a0<strong>preservative Alquermold Natural<\/strong>\u00a0(cimenol ring) at different concentrations (1000, 700, 400 and 200 ppm) could inactivate\u00a0<em>Clostridium perfringens<\/em>after contact times of 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 60 minutes, and 24 hours.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>METHODOLOGY<\/strong><br \/>\n1.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0The following concentrations of natural preservative (cimenol ring) in sterile RO water were prepared: 2000, 1400, 800 and 400 ppm.<br \/>\n2.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a01 ml from all 4 vials were removed and placed in 4 new separate vials. 1 extra vial was prepared as control with only 1 ml of sterile RO water.<br \/>\n3.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0To all 5 vials, 1ml overnight broth culture of\u00a0<em>Clostridium\u00a0perfringens<\/em>\u00a0was added. Final preservative dilutions were: 1000, 700, 400 and 200 ppm, respectively.<br \/>\n4.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0All vials were incubated at room temperature (25\u00baC) under anaerobic conditions.<br \/>\n5.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0After various time points (10 min, 20 min, 60 min and 24 hours) 200 \u03bcl from each vial were removed and serial 10-fold dilutions (100 to 10-7) were prepared in PBS as a diluent.<br \/>\n6.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Later, 100 \u03bcl of each sample dilution were transferred into separate sterile Petri dishes containing TSA (trypticase soy agar medium).<br \/>\n7.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Plates were incubated at 37\u00baC for 24 hours under anaerobic conditions.<br \/>\n8.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Inoculated plates were examined and number of bacterial colonies was counted.<br \/>\n9.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Bacterial titers in all vials were calculated and recorded in a table.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESULTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8139 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Cimenol-ring-vs-clostridium-perfringens-Veterinaria-Digital-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"568\" height=\"162\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The upper chart shows that 1000 ppm dilution at 24 hours was the only one that reached &gt;99,99% of inactivation of CFU. Lower concentrations achieved 98,45% and 70% inactivation, at 700 and 400 ppm respectively, and also after 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONCLUSIONS<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>This natural preservative with cimenol ring is effective against\u00a0<em>C. perfringens<\/em>, and its efficacy is related to the dose and time of contact with the pathogen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cimenol ring<\/strong>\u00a0is commercially available under the name of\u00a0Alquermold Natural, manufactured by Biovet S.A.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The aim of the trial was to determine if cimenol ring at different concentrations could inactivate Clostridium perfringens..
