{"id":55001,"date":"2018-02-27T07:27:57","date_gmt":"2018-02-27T06:27:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/study-of-the-efficacy-of-intestinal-optimizer-pronutrients-against-a-chemical-coccidiostat-in-broiler-chickens\/"},"modified":"2024-04-22T12:02:15","modified_gmt":"2024-04-22T10:02:15","slug":"study-of-the-efficacy-of-intestinal-optimizer-pronutrients-against-a-chemical-coccidiostat-in-broiler-chickens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/en\/2018\/02\/27\/study-of-the-efficacy-of-intestinal-optimizer-pronutrients-against-a-chemical-coccidiostat-in-broiler-chickens\/","title":{"rendered":"Efficacy of intestinal optimizer pronutrients against a chemical coccidiostat in broilers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/chicken-2804399_640.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b><strong>Introduction:<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>In a trial carried out by the BAU (Bangladesh Agricultural University) the efficacy of\u00a0<b><strong>ALQUERNAT ZYCOX<\/strong><\/b>\u00a0intestinal\u00a0<b><strong>optimizer pronutrients,<\/strong><\/b>\u00a0on the feed conversion rate (FCR) and growth in broiler chickens was studied, comparing its effectiveness with that of a chemical coccidiostat.<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>Material y methods:<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>A controlled and randomized trial was performed, using the double-blind technique. 1000 broilers of the Cobb 500 line were used for 35 days, divided into 3 different groups separately, but with the same environmental and management conditions; and the food and water supplied\u00a0<em>ad libitum:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Control group (n = 340) without coccidiostats in the food<\/p>\n<p>Group with intestinal optimizer pronutrients (n = 330), at 0.5 kg\/ton<\/p>\n<p>Group with chemical coccidiostats (n = 330), at 0.5 kg\/ton; (Maduramycin 0.8% + Nicarbazine 8.0%)<\/p>\n<p>At 16 days of age, an artificial infection was induced with\u00a0<em>Eimeria tenella<\/em>, with 2.5&#215;10<sup>4<\/sup>\u00a0oocysts\/bird. Potassium dichromate (2.5%) was used for sporulation, and then the oocysts were isolated and identified.<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>Evaluated parameters:<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Live weight and Feed Conversion Rate<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>Mortality<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Clinical observation of the faeces, classifying them as follows:<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201c\u00b1\u201d Without or with little blood, no diarrhoea.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201c+\u201d Some blood, greater proportion of affected broilers.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201c++\u201d Bloody faeces with diarrhoea, most of broilers are infected.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201c+++\u201d Faeces with blood and mucous, dark, dejection.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201c++++\u201d Severe diarrhoea with blood, necrotic detritus of the caecum, prostration.<\/p>\n<p>Clinical evaluation of cecal lesions<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Macroscopic:\u00a0Classifying the injuries in 4 grades from 1 to 4:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1:\u00a0Diffused petechiae in mucosal and serous surface. Some blood in the caecum. Dense caecal content.<\/li>\n<li>2: Petechiae in mucosal and serous surface. Dense caecal content with blood or fibrin. Thickened wall, but with wrinkles.<\/li>\n<li>3: Thickened caecal wall, wrinkles are not observed. Absence of caecal content, which has been replaced by blood or fibrin.<\/li>\n<li>4: Distended caecum, with lumen full of blood or clots.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Microscopic:\u00a0Evaluation of histological lesions in 4 grades from 0 to 4 depending on the concentration of inflammatory cells per focus, damage to the villi and exudate in the lamina propria, and luminal accumulation.<\/p>\n<p>Oocyst count per gram of faeces (in 5 birds per group using the Whitlock Universal film with 4 chambers)<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>Results: (Artificial infection at day 16 of life)<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><strong>Average live weight g\/bird<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/graficzycox.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 200;\">The average weight per bird at the end of the cycle was very similar between the control and the pronutrient treated groups, and lower in the group treated with a chemical coccidiostat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 200;\"><b><strong>Feed conversi\u00f3n rate<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Zycox1.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Zycox2.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 200;\">Feed conversion rate was lower in the group treated with pronutrients than in the group treated with a chemical coccidiostat, and this difference was even greater compared to the control.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 200;\"><b><strong>Mortality %<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 200;\">Mortality was significantly lower in the group treated with pronutrients.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/zycox3.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b><span lang=\"ES-TRAD\">Evaluation of the faeces<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/zycos4.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In post-infection days, the evolution of faeces in terms of affectation was markedly better in the group treated with pronutrients than in the group treated with chemical coccidiostats and in the control group.<\/p>\n<p><b><span lang=\"ES-TRAD\">Macroscopic cecal lesions<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/zycox5.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 200;\">n post-infection days, the evolution of macroscopic cecal lesions was significantly better in the group treated with pronutrients.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 200;\"><b><strong>Histopathological lesions<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/zycox6.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 200;\">Histopathological lesions also showed a better evolution during the post-infection days in the group treated with pronutrients.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 200;\"><b><strong>Oocyst count<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/biovet-alquermes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/zycox7.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 200;\">In the count of oocysts, a higher decrease was observed in the batch treated with pronutrients.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 200;\"><b><strong>Final conclusions of the trial<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 200;\">\u00fc\u00a0\u00a0Weight gain was similar in the control and pronutrient groups.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 200;\">\u00fc\u00a0\u00a0Feed conversion rate was similar in the group of pronutrients and in the group of chemical coccidiostats.
