Biovet S.A. will participate in the “2018 PSA Annual Meeting” in San Antonio, Texas, USA

Biovet S.A. will give a conference and present a scientific poster in the 2018 PSA Annual Meeting, organized by the Poultry Science Association (PSA), to be held on July 23-26, in San Antonio, Texas, USA. The presentation exposed by the Dra. Julia Pié, head of the Biovet technical team, will be addressed to the use of Alquernat Nebsui (botanical product) from pronutrients line of Biovet, as an alternative to an Antibiotic Growth Promoter (AGP) in broilers.

Also, Biovet will present a scientific poster about the use of Alquernat Nebsui in layers, in which the productive parameters and egg quality were evaluated.

TRIALS OF BIOVET
During the conference, which will be held on July 23, Dr. Julia Pié will present a research carried out in 2017 at Scientific University of the South, (UCSUR, as its initials in Spanish) (Lima, Peru) on the use of Alquernat Nebsui to replace an AGP in broilers, through the analysis of growth performance and the intestinal relative weight (as an indicator of intestinal efficiency).

On the other hand, the poster will present the results of a study conducted in 2018 at Mississippi State University, USA, to evaluate the productive parameters and egg quality in layers, thanks to an improvement of the intestinal absorption, due to the addition of Alquernat Nebsui in drinking water.

ANTIBIOTIC GROWTH PROMOTERS (AGPs)
The use of antibiotics in animal production is a controversial topic of discussion for a long time. Many debates have been generated continuously regarding the use and prohibition of antibiotics in animal production, as well as the repercussions and alternatives in each case.

An important point throughout this discussion was the prohibition of the use of bacitracin-zinc, spiramicyn, virginiamycin and tylosin phosphate in the European Union in 1998. (Regulation (EC) No 2821/98 of the Council of 17 December 1998 amending Directive 70/524 / EEC on additives in animal nutrition, as regards the revocation of the authorization of certain antibiotics).

Currently, an alternative to AGPs is the use of food additives based on substances of natural origin, pronutrients, which stimulate the physiology of animals, so that they can fight with infections and infestations as well as high production pressures without requiring substances with pharmacological effect. Therefore, Biovet S.A, through its Alquernat line chooses pronutrients as the effective alternative to the use of antibiotics in animal production. You can read about this topic in the following article: Antibiotics in animal production, future perspectives and alternatives.

“Poultry Science Association (PSA) is a professional organization, consisting of approximately 1.800 educators, scientists, extension specialists, industry researchers, administrators, producers and university students committed to the advancing the poultry industry. Since 1908, the PSA has maintained a level of prestige that ranks it among the top professional organizations in the field”, highlight the event organizers.

The purpose of this event is “to develop scientific leaders in subject areas, including among others, poultry genetics, health, nutrition, food safety, and quality for the poultry industry”, pointed from the PSA.

The 2018 PSA Annual Meeting will be held at the San Antonio Marriott River Center hotel, 101 Bowie St San Antonio, TX 78205. Get more information with the following link: https://www.poultryscience.org/psa18/
